An extremely rare and special 'Plus' group modular sofa designed by Robin Day for Hille.

The 'Plus' group system was designed in 1965 by Day to follow on from the 'Form' group series of 1960. It features a solid African walnut wooden rectilinear frame in which upholstered seating and table units cleverly slot into place allowing different seating combinations to be used.

As can be seen in the photos, this set comprises two free-standing frames, four seating units (two with arm ends), one upholstered seat, and one table.

There are some marks/scratches in a few places on the African walnut frames as is to be expected, although having been cleaned, oiled, waxed and polished, the overall condition of the frames is very good.

The veneer on the table top needed restoring, so we have very carefully restored and re-finished it by hand. There were a couple of deeper scratches which couldn't be completely removed, but the overall condition is now excellent.

The modular seating units have all been completely stripped and fully re-upholstered exactly as per the original upholstery design (the sofa still had the original fabric when we purchased it). As with all our pieces, only the highest quality upholstery materials have been used. We opted for a superb grey wool from Kvadrat's Tonica collection. A sample of the fabric can be provided upon request.
